A chill wind blows through the castle...

Have a seat, have a drink, walk among friends, all of this can be done in the Golden Griffon, Titan's official tavern.

A chill wind blows through the castle...

It has been a long time since he last walked these halls. A very long time indeed. He had traveled to many places in the meantime, seen beauty and horrors unimaginable by mortal sensibilities.

Leaning heaving on his staff, he slowly limps along the corridor, heading in the direction of his old room.

Once there, he sinks down into his old recliner, dismisses his staff, and conjures a fire in the fireplace.

How long he'll stay, he doesn't know. But for now...

Twist Rolarian is home.

((OOC: Once again-- just informing people that I'll be posting as all my RP characters from this screen name. The characters, thus far are carnelianfire and Ebon-Ashe. In the future, it may include Jadewik. I'll be posting ICly in this thread.))

Carn trailed a finger in her reflecting pool as she lay day dreaming. She had recently learned how to scry from a book she'd borrowed from Twist's personal library. She tested her new found talent in the waters of the reflecting pool and on a whim, summoned an image of the Titan Palace. It looked so beautiful, glistening in the sunlight as a cloud of smoke wafted from th... stopping mid-thought carn paused to scrutinize the palace image closely.

Yes, that was smoke billowing from the smokestack of one of the towers-- but it wasn't just from A tower, it was from TWIST'S tower.

"Holy salad sandwich," carn exclaimed and jumped up. The image of the palace disappeared as quickly as her concentration vanished. Carn quickly gathered her belongings-- a crumpled pile of magical notes, blank parchment, a quill, and ink-- and scrambled back to her home-- Chateau de Amorance, where she'd retired to after passing clan leadership on to Curulan.

Her Chateau wasn't terribly far from Titan Palace, so it didn't take long for carn to grab the book she'd borrowed and race to the palace. Hopefully, she could replace the book in one of the massive piles of books that were in Twist's library without getting caught. Of course, she hadn't borrowed the book with permission-- Twist wasn't around to ask-- and carn didn't want to seek out any of the other magic users 'round the palace because she didn't want them to know she was even studying magic because of what Ebon might do. She shuddered and tried to conceal the book's title with her arm as she made her way through the winding corridors of Titan Palace.

Carn paused momentarilly at the Tower's stairwell. Her heart was beating so fast as she opened the door and began her journey up the stairs....

OOC: ^_^

He sat staring into the fire, relaxing, letting his mind wander... and that's when he felt it. A familiar presence moving about, a presence with... not great power, but power nontheless. A moments contemplation, and he recalled, That's one of my books. Someone has somehow managed to bypass the locks. Why did I not detect it about earlier? I felt my personal library in place. Have I been gone too long?

Closing his eyes, scowling as he did so, he spoke the words and summoned the shadows to bring the book to him. As well as who or what holds it.

((OOC: Was trying to think of something exciting to get carn into trouble... wasn't thinking about twist's spells and hiding places. Sorry!))

Carn was teleported mid-step, and so lost her balance. The book tumbled from her hands as she tried to catch her balance.

"Oh, no!" Carn cried out, but she couldn't save herself and the book. Her hands hit the floor awkwardly and carn heard a pop as she mildly sprained her wrist. She felt bad enough already about having borrowed the book. She felt worse now that she was literally caught red handed as her wrist began to swell. It was only then she noticed Twist in the room and carn hung her head in shame.

OOC: So I figured; therefore you got the trouble you were looking for. ;)

"My dear Carnelianfire, I might have known," he said, chuckling. "And here I was expecting someone like Brop to be begging to get blown up again."

Twist rose from his chair, and limping over to Carn, helped her to her feet. Then he picked his book up off the floor.

"It would seem you are lucky to have not picked one of the cursed volumes. Might I ask what you were up to?"

Twist was an old friend, and carn felt she could probably trust him with her secret. He might tell Ebon-Ashe that she was learning magic, but he probably wouldn't.

The relationship that Ebon had with Twist was quite odd. In most cases, she loathed magic users-- but with Twist, it seemed like she enjoyed his company. Perhaps it was that they seemed to have so much in common. Perhaps it was something else...

Carn dusted herself off, favoring her sprained wrist slightly, as she bought herself a few moments to craft her response to Twist.

"I borrowed it for a bit of light reading," she paused momentarily debating how much to tell Twist before deciding that more was better and continuing, "... and to learn a little magic."

Carn wasn't very adept at magic. As an elf, she had magical abilities. As an orphan, she only knew what little magic she'd been taught at an early age... and, of course, whatever she was able to learn on her own. Since she'd retired and had more free time, she'd taken more of an interest in magic. With the help of Twist's book, she'd learned some spells that were more difficult than the novice cantrips and enchantments she'd been using her whole life. It was thrilling.

Hug-tackling her friend, carn quickly redirected the conversation towards Twist. "Twistie! It's so good to see you." She gave him a gentle kiss on the cheek. "You look as mysterious as ever... what have you been up to?"

"Gah!" he exclaimed, taken unawares at the unexpected hug, and being knocked backwards into his chair. He forcefully pushed Carn away, favoring his injured leg. He grimaced in pain as he looked at her. Partially ignoring her 'friendly' advances, he pressed his quiery.

"Yes, yes, it is good to see you as well. So you just want to learn a little magic do you? I recall that you've asked me to teach you in the past." Twist holds up the night-blue bound book that Carn had. Silver runes on the binding indicated it's name to those who could read it. "This is one of my earlier spellbooks. As you already know, it's part of my personal library, not one of those that is available to the general public as most of my books are. Just how you got in we'll discuss later. And since you don't appear to have gone insane from trying to decipher magic too far above your level, then I can only assume that you are indeed ready for this."

A slight grin spreads across his face, a mixture of pleasure and amusement, as he leans slightly forward in his cushioned chair.

"Let us see what you have learned..."

A test?

Carn had to stop herself from groaning aloud.

What to do... what to do... Then she remembered Twist was limping. Carn hadn't really given it much thought 'till now.

Having borrowed a book of healing from the main Titan library, carn grinned broadly and rubbed her hands together. Her eagerness to show her improved magical aptitude waxed strong across her visage.

"Just relax and trust me."

She cracked her knuckles and set to work on Twist's wound carefully rolling up his robes so she could catch a better look at what sort of wound she was dealing with. The action was all business as the thought of catching a glimpse of Twist's legs never struck her as kinky-- she was nurse carn now and nothing else.

"Oh, wow, what did you pick a fight with? Whatever it was looks like it was a formidable enemy."

The wound was still fresh and unclean. While she didn't know how to assess a magic wound from a non-magical wound, Carn did know how to clean a wound with magic, stop wounds from bleeding, and start the healing process. She'd spent a few spare moments volunteering in guardhouse mending minor wounds soldiers had aquired while practicing their swordplay, so she was somewhat practiced.

Carn wrinkled her brow as she focused on the necessary spells and began chanting softly under her breath.

This wound was a bit more extensive than the ones she'd encountered in her volunteer work, so she had to focus a bit more than usual... such focus was taxing for her and carn almost couldn't finish the necessary spells before becoming too weak. When she finished, she had to wait a moment before the strength to stand found her again.

The moment of weakness was a bit embarassing for Carn and she blushed furtively.

"We'll still have to bandage you, but we'll need to go to the infirmary for bandages. I haven't any with me."

Carn looked up at Twist, tugging the frayed edge of her dress, hoping he wasn't mad she'd been so forthright with his wound.

OOC: Ok, didn't expect that. At least you left me some room to work with, seeing as I hadn't intended for anyone to tend my leg. Brat. :P

Twist had injured his leg in battle with some old enemies he had made the mistake of assuming were long since deceased. A hard lesson he should never have had to relearn, considering that Dragons aren't the only near-immortal species on the Planes.

Instinctively, he tried to hide his injury as Carn attempted to uncover it. A second later, however, he deduced her purpose.

Of course, as an elf she has a natural gift for healing. She intends to show her power as such.

Fortunately for him, it was not a serious wound. His calf had swollen, and garish bruising had enveloped it. Letting Carn work her magic in silence, he observed her technique. While he himself had no real practice with healing or divine magic, he recognized that she was not only fairly competent, but also quite practiced.

"How I was injured is a story for another time. Suffice it to say that while I am the most powerful mage in this region, I am not the strongest in all the Planes. This is just one of the many limitations of your squishy humanoid forms."

When she finished, he stood, tested his weight, and nodded. "Much better. Still sore, but that's to be expected given it's nature."

Twist then sat back down, and grinned at Carn.

"Now then. You're quite adept at healing. How about demonstrating something that you have learned from my tome instead?"

While Twist's book contained some basic spells, it also had a few intermediate spells that had been scrawled in the margins on the pages. Carn wasn't certain if it was Twist who'd done the writing in the book, but she was a little put off that she had to do another spell-- this time from HIS book. So, she picked one she'd memorized from the margins, stood up, wrinkled her nose, and cast it.

As she cast, carn could feel the mana being sucked out of her. She hadn't quite recovered from healing Twist's leg and so, as the spell was released carn's consciousness momentarilly lapsed. She fell to her knees fatigued and with just enough time to see a fireball fly across the room in no particular direction.

"It wasn't supposed to do that," she exclaimed as she forced herself to stand. Carn removed her jacket and rushed across the rooms to squeltch the flames from her misguided fireball.

She couldn't help but cringe with each movement-- not because she was exhausted... but because of the trouble she'd caused using magic.
