Nice, but i would suggest making the Japanese (?) characters bigger and perhaps even vertical

Nah, I think it looks better where it is because of the way the lines and all go around it.

But, you're right, I probably ought to make the characters bigger.

I would "tone down" the wolf image so that his fur doesn't fight for attention with the focal point (which i'm assuming to be the wolf's face and the moon/running wolf)

I used Photoshop for everything except the moon and the wolf. I used Flash MX for those.
