Registering

Postby Cheshire » February 16th, 2009, 5:16 pm

It has been brought to my attention that it is (nearly) impossible to do. I looked into and I couldn't even find a link to register a new account. So... how do you do it now?

IIRC, Curulan disabled the ability to register new accounts due to all the spam that was being created by bots and 3rd parties. He can create new accounts on a case by case basis for new players.

Hmm... i missed that memo

No offense, but i feel like that was a very bad thing to do. This way we can't get new (legit) traffic coming into Titan. No new members, no ambassadors from other clans, etc.

Effectively cutting us off from other clans and new members.

When the new legit traffic is outnumbered 100:1 by spam, it becomes a very wise thing to do. But you'll have to take that up with him; I could care less either way.

That's why I put a post up stating this. If anyone wants to register an account, I will be happy to get one set up for them.

I've literally been getting 4 or 5 spammer registrations per day. It's gotten to the point where I can't distinguish between them to activate only the "good" accounts, so a hands-on method really is necessary at this point. I had already set account activation to admin-only, but that didn't help much.

If anyone comes to you about this, Chesh, please forward their info along to me. I'll be more than happy to take care of it.

I had to look for more than 5minutes to find it. I doubt if a casual member or a person just interested in Titan and thinking about joining will be able to find it as fast as i did. Assuming they still had the patience of going through with it.

I almost created a new announcement stating what to do if you want to register, but i figured I would let you do it (curu) since they would be contacting you.

You had to look more than five minutes for an announcement thread titled "FAQ/Policy" in the primary forum on this board? One with "Updated 14 February 2009" in the title?

Regardless, I'm setting it back.
