With his back to the front porch of a tavern stood Georg Nihler, a rugged looking boy with an ear out for gold. People passed by hither and thither and yet nothing in their pockets sounded worthwhile to risk getting caught. Without much to do but wait and listen he stood there anxiously, irritated with the current pilfering supply.

A beautiful woman with large breasts passed by him suddenly. He knew she had something worthwhile in her pockets, but she had two things worthwhile in her shirt. His pubescent interest was piqued and a quiet clicking noise permeated the air, improving his vision at the loss of color. She was soon gone and the clicking stopped, the boy now bored again of waiting for someone to come by. Georg slapped himself in the face after realizing what he let get away... he definitely should not have fallen to such a base level.

Once more aware of the jingle in peoples' pockets, the boy looked about in hopes of finding something that he could steal and use to either live comfortably for the next two weeks or to use for fun, or perhaps adventuring. Regardless, he was bored and stifled a yawn.

This could take a while.

When she landed, it was as if her mood swept up into her from the ground. Flying seamed to take her away from things, but no longer free in the air they came back. All Picaboo's efforts went to waste the last time, and here she was again. Having a new tavern usually brought her joy. It upset her that she didn’t feel any.

Unable to be seen, and wanting to stay that way, she took this slight anger out on a random boy who stood outside. She aimed to pass through him before the wall, entering on her feet. It always helped with anger when she gave someone the shivers with her non-present dead touch. Knowing she couldn’t interact with a chair to pull it out she took a seat in one forgotten off to the side.

She slumped into her arms, wishing she would have had an idea like she usually did. One hadn’t come since her last disappointment.

Did she have to lose her wonderful ideas too? She already couldn’t have friends or even pull a chair out for herself. Making herself drop the topic she relaxed on her arms more, trying again to think of something. Things never came when she tried to make them. Hopefully no one sat in her; invisible and not watching out for others this ghost could easily be tripped on as she gives unintentional chills.

Sitting with his eyes peeled for someone and filled with boredom, Georg was shocked to feel something cold grab him and try to pull him towards the wall. Except, whatever it was didn't pull him at all, he just felt it come out there. Something went off in his brain and Georg realized that it wasn't just a random chill, but what it was he had no idea. Considering he was next to blind at the moment the boy began his high pitched shrieking, refining his sight and at the same time redefining it. Nothing revealed itself in his colorless sonar, and in his 360 degrees of sight was nothing out of place. Georg grimaced mildly and returned his sight to his eyes. On a day like today he was not prone to the cold and there was no breeze. The thought that nothingness had attacked him was an unfamiliar and foreign idea, but implanted only a small dash of fear at the back of the boy's mind.

Georg returned to scoping out pouches and pockets, putting the strange feeling aside.

Sighing, Picaboo gave up on thinking of an idea. She began to look around, at the people she could play with here. A few seamed to be tough and boring, while others were your usual commoner. Very few looked frail and fun. A childish smile began to form on her young cheeks as she looked at two little brothers fighting.

A barmaid passed in her view, grabbing Picaboo’s attention. The woman had a tray full of drinks, hot and cold. Without worry the barmaid carried them over her head and out of the way of people sitting. The ghost smiled harder. She had an idea. The potential of it filled her. It may not cause great concern, but it would have enough effects to make her happy.

Moving into the air above the may heads, Picaboo waited for the right moment. As the short time past the possibility grew weaker as a glass or two was given to the customers. There were still enough to make her plan enjoyable. Then, it was time. The tray was just about to pass carefully over someone’s head and the barmaid was distracted taking an order of someone else. The sitting person didn’t look to be alarmed of the tray even though Picaboo knew there was reason to be. The ghost readied to hold back giggles.

Taking advantage of the moment Picaboo plopped down on the barmaid, freezing her in her words and making the tray fall all over the person sitting. Moving into the air again for the best view Picaboo’s cheeks hurt as she tried not to laugh. Everyone always heard her when she laughed. It was almost too much as the barmaid apologized over and over. She held onto the growing knot of chuckles that were almost painful in her gut.

And oh, did it draw attention.

A loud crash and very well stifled laughter caught Georg's ear.

Turning about and walking into the tavern the boy disregarded the feeling he had earlier, unable to connect it to anything but what he thought to be this event now. Something strange was happening, and the same cold that had passed through him might have caused the waitress to create the scene he now viewed. Looking about, he saw quite a few people interested in what had happened.

But, he noticed that nobody was laughing.

Could this have been a practical joke? Is somebody with powerful magics pulling random pranks on people? Georg decided that he liked the idea of a powerful mage causing random occurrences such as this to happen and wished he knew exactly what was going on.

Again he attempted to hear who was doing this, but there was no masked sound attempting to get away, nobody trying to escape notice. Wishing he could be a part of this obnoxious event the boy moved out of the doorway and leaned on the frame, watching the final stages of the prank unfold, still hoping to get a clue of what had happened to cause this.

The bystanders were moving back to their own tasks as the usual noise of the tavern began again. She took this as the point to move up through the rafters, but she stayed inside to be able to watch people still. A quieted sigh was let out to replace all the laughter that wanted to burst. She had no worries that the humans below might hear her.

As she calmed down she noticed that no one else laughed. Wasn’t it funny to see someone get hot and cold liquids spilt on them for no reason? She thought it was. Her joy was washed away with their lack of interest, but their attention was at least caught if only slightly. It would add effect to her next idea.

There was an urge to do the same thing as she had the same opportunity, but it would be too much to play the same game twice like that. It always caused suspicion, which was never as fun as worry or most other attention. For this reason she let the urge fade away as she watched for things that might spark other ideas or other fun people.

If only she had saved that idea for the barmaid now carrying a tray full of messy foods.

Georg watched as the tavern went back to the usual course of events. Bored and almost ready to leave, Georg's sharp hearing picked up some sound from up in the rafters, if only faintly, and his eyes traveled to the location of the source. So... he was correct in guessing that someone was here after all. Though he had found someone out of place, he still could not see who it was. Perhaps it was in fact a mage?

Looking back down at a normal level Georg peered around the tavern and noticed another perfect condition that had been the setup of the last prank- with messy foods, too. Out of reckless abandon the boy crept forward quickly and stealthily, noticed by nobody at all. As the barmaid stopped with her plate above another person's head to talk to another person in the opposite direction, George leaped up, pushing the plate onto the person's head. Just as quickly and quietly as he had come he was back at the door. Surely nobody could have seen him do it, and he giggled to himself quietly as the tavern erupted into a panic over a second incident. Georg noticed that a number of people became angry with the tavern and left, afraid that they, too would be the subject of this. It seemed as though everyone blamed the waitresses for being clumsy, but Georg knew better.

His muffled laughter finally ceased as he watched the madness continue. The entire tavern was in disarray and it seemed that that was how it would stay for a small while longer.

Literally peeking through one of the tavern’s rafters with her head sticking through it, Picaboo continued to keep an eye out. From her view she could see a boy move to the lady with the tray, tipping it just as she had wanted to. Her grin was uncontrollable, and so was her happy giggle. At least it was a quiet one. Besides, everyone was too panicked to notice.

The boy had moved back to the door, unknown to the others that he did it. Picaboo was excited to see him giggle and she was curious if he had any other ideas of what they could do. Not only that, but maybe she could cause some more trouble for not only the tavern’s patrons but him as well. It would be fun trying.

As the people moved out angry from the tavern, Picaboo landed carefully beside the boy. Most of the people were still looking to the barmaid. Only now did she have to let her smile go to let herself become visible.

“Boo.” She failed at not smiling, letting herself fade slightly until the smile itself was gone. Trying not to enjoy herself too much; as the emotion would make her fade, she looked to the boy to see his reaction. Picaboo was defiantly glad to have found this tavern and its fun patrons.

Georg watched each person go out of the door angry- none of them suspected he had done a thing. Just after the last person left and he began to relax against the wall, an opaque "boo" confronted him from the side and he turned to behold a non-corporeal girl. He blinked a couple of times at her appearance.

"Hey! I didn't notice you before... that was you that did it the first time, wasn't it?"

Georg's voice was almost greedy, barely revealing that he was up for more mischief. His mouth twisted upwards a little into a vague boyish grin. It seems as though he had made a new friend, but made sure to keep his wits about him in case she decided to trick him.

The boy's very pale eyes seemed to twinkle a little, even under the lack of light in the tavern. He suspected nothing of the girl's state of death, even though she was a little off colored. However, at the back of his mind Georg wondered why he couldn't find her in his radar. He convinced himself that it was because she was hiding too close behind objects or people for him to hear.

She mimicked his posture of leaning back on the wall, her joy buried deep so it wouldn’t cause her problems. The faintest of a smile was all that could be let out and still allow her to appear solid. Inside she was greatly proud that he thought it was her.

“Yeah, that was me. Nice job on the second tray.”

Picaboo hadn’t even needed to ask if it was him; another thing she took pride in. By the look on his face she was reassured that this would be a grand day. Knowing his smile like her own she could tell he wanted to play, just like she did.

A wide glance around the room pointed out all of their playmates. Her smile grew so slightly that it would probably go unnoticed.

“What next...”

Though many people had stormed out of the tavern, many yet remained and Georg seemed to feel Picaboo's intentions as he joined her in scoping out the tavern. He nodded at her compliment, pondering the various activities they could do.

Suddenly, jingly pockets caught his attention. Someone was coming closer to the tavern's entrance... someone with money. His back still to the wall, Georg lifted his arm as the man walked through the door. Georg's fingers, hand, torso, head, legs and feet all snaked towards the man as they poked into his pockets. Not more than a moment later, his hand retracted with five silver coins. Next to Picaboo again and grinning, Georg flashed the money he held for but a second then stuffed it into his pouch at his side. He said nothing and, still grinning, looked around the tavern for anything else he could do.

She watched curiously as he moved, towards a man and then just as quickly away. The man didn’t seam scared or surprised at all by whatever game he must have been playing. Seeing the coins, her smile was gone. She was always told that stealing from people was bad. That only made what the boy did more exciting.

“That was great. I could have never done something like that.” Picaboo glanced back to the barmaid. “Watch this.” Picaboo grinned and disappeared.

The barmaid looked to have learned, and was still brave enough to work. The tray was now held closer to herself, and at a lower level to put the customers still around at ease. Picaboo waited until the woman turned around while everyone else was back to eating or talking amongst themselves. Everything was perfect.

Just as the barmaid turned, Picaboo appeared right in front of her. The small child cringed as she pretended to fear being ran into. The barmaid jumped to avoid spilling her very warm soup on the little girl, letting it fly into the air and onto herself. Picaboo had already gone invisible until she moved next to the boy at the door, appearing as her giggles faded. Everyone was back to wondering what was wrong with the barmaid as she looked around for the child she swore she had seen. Chunks of soup were even caught in her hair.

The girl disappeared, yet Georg didn't take notice. His head turned the other way, he looked about for something good to do for a prank when suddenly she appeared before the barmaid, seemingly out of nowhere. Astounded, Georg watched for a few moments before he started chuckling lightly at the well-played joke.

Just as suddenly then, the girl disappeared. Georg looked all around for Picaboo and saw her nowhere, but heard her coming closer. Before he knew it she was by him, and he turned about to see her. He was thoroughly impressed with her stealth, but he still did not realize that she was a ghost.

"How did you do that? I heard you coming closer and yet couldn't see you anywhere! ...that was amazing! Do you know magic or somethin' like that?" His eyes gleamed in the darkness, eager to learn the ghost's revealed secret.

The girl beamed at his astonishment, her joy making her fade slightly for a moment. She had to shrug it off before relaxing. It was just nice to have him so impressed.

“Yeah, something like that you could say.” She didn’t really want to say she was dead; that’d ruin it. Tilting her head slightly she gestured to the barmaid.

“We need to think up something else before we draw suspicion. Doing the same thing too much or to the same person always causes problems; trust me on that.” Serious for a little girl, it was clear she had had problems from doing such things.

Glancing back to the tavern, she searched for a challenge. “I want to try clearing the tavern.”

"That would be easy, but I want to see how you think we should do it," said the boy, now grinning. He leaned back against the wall again and looked away once more from the girl, but this time, keeping the edges of his eyes on her. He wondered what she would come up with and wouldn't deign to... change... without a great deal of antagonistic insults.

"So, what do you think?" His smile faded and he adopted her seriousness, imitating her as a joke. Inside he was laughing, thinking he could escape from her so easily if she turned her ability to seem to disappear against him.
