:Lemac looked to the others, then to the few that surived the attack with her. Still bent over the body of the young lady. With a loving gesture Lemac passed her hand over the eyes of the body, as the passed the eyes closed. Lemac wiped the tear from her cheek as she stood, also checking the hood of her cloak. She truned to Joe and Miltion.:

"Greating Sir Miltion, I am Morning Star Macht. I thank you for your aid."

:Lemac looked to the others then back to Joe:

"Sir I have the feeling that you would like to track down the people responcable for this attack. I would like to join you in the venture. My trip to Salamander can wait. I have been told that the ship 'Dawn's Passage' will not depart untill I am on board. I have my reasons for wanting to join you. And I think my skills might proved some help. Please don't think of me as being frail and weak just because of my condition."

:With that Lemac rested her hands on her stomac.:

"Trust me it will not slow you down, and only strenghtens my skills."

:Lemac gently carressed her stomac, and waited for a responce.:

James, peeking from in the brush, nodded mentally to Joe. His eyes accidentally dislodged from Milton and turned towards the black-haired man. A "yes" wouldn't come clearly across, but there was a definite affirmation sent to Joe that he would help. James' eyes returned back to the healer now, and their eyes locked. He watched as Milton broke the greeting stare and introduced himself quaintly. Observing the contact James realized that Milton might have been considered rude in situations other than the one they were in now. James moved out of the brush a bit towards Milton until he could sit down just outside the brush, then doing just that. His eyes will still locked upon Milton's as the healer's attention returned, his hand brushing James' fur. The wolf-were had begun to get used to Milton's petting and his eyes closed in an almost serendipitous smile.

James' tongue slicked out and hit Milton's hand once as his eyes opened again. His attention moved elsewhere now to the bush he had just come out of, and with the creation of a gaping maw his mouth took a chunk of leaf out of the shrubbery. Mmm, thought James. A pool of mild contentment leaked out intangibly from the wolf, barely touching the feet of those around him. Salal leaves were a food James could never get tired of. The berries, however, gave him a stomach ache.

Chewing quietly the wolf-were watched those about him.

"Joe," the grey ball of fur communicated. "Milton is a friend. We can trust him."

"Oh I have every intention of tracking them down. And I would not presume to doubt anyone's abilities m'lady. But I think Cartes should still be first on the agenda, if not for you, than at least for those you travel with. Plus, I was merely out on a walk and am unprepared for the type of adventure I think this might be." Joe finished speaking to the woman then turned to look at James and spoke to his mind, "Did you get the scent of the man who dissapeared, and do you think you might remember it in the future?"

later, when they were traveling, he would think more about why James would call Milton a friend. But now always held Joe's mind, and his thoughts were only on the vanishing man, and getting these people safely back to Cartes.

Turning when he heard his name, he nodded to the woman.

Only now did he look around more thoroughly; to the survivors and everything they had with them. He wondered why this attack happened before he deemed the question pointless. Either way he would be stuck helping these people.

Something about the woman’s next words told Milton she knew she was using them. And to track down people none the less. The healer hadn’t said he would do that. However he would still follow.

His eyes fell to her belly, rolling away at how many women he saw pregnant nowadays. There must have been something about it that was different for her to be so confident.

The woman hadn’t needed to say anything for the goody good to comply. Then again Milton was stuck in it as well.

:Lemac simply smield and noded.:

"As you wish."

:Lemac gathered the few belongs that she could find. She found most her things, other then her spare changes of clothes and the bag that was holding them. She found the other smaller bag the held her more personal belongings and smaller weapons.:

"Joe, my compains and I are at your lead."

James, out of half-boredom, turned his head and grabbed a mouthful of leaves just to chomp on. Mm.

While doing so, Joe called out in their spiritual link once more. James nonchalantly answered yes... in common speech. His head turned to look down the road. Seeing nothing, the wolf looked the other way down the road. Again seeing little but what he already knew was there, James spat out the leaves and turned an about-face, padding forward and disappearing into the bushes. A few feet later he climbed a tree above the bush and stood looking about the forest from a more secluded spot, his view sporadically impeded by branches and leaves. There weren't any animals around. That man who disappeared must be very evil, or he's still here. James shuddered and hoped he wasn't, because he couldn't smell him at all... in fact, it would be odd if the man were there.

The wolf-boy stood on the branch looking down at the others now. He patiently awaited for them to journey onward, or do something interesting.

"You're arrogant display was reckless. Completely. You're jeaporodizing my operations, Jarketh!"

A raspy voice rung out in the darkness, not even a semblance of a face can be seen in this damp and decrepit lair of operations. A dark figure sits atop a pile of cushions, his face and body cloaked by the darkness. The bandit thief who led the brigands in a heist against the incoming merchants earlier was now before this shadowed figure. With a silent hand, the hierarch motions to his entourage and the deed is done.

Jarketh now lay in a pool of his own blood, his life quickly ended for his recklessness in the earlier attack.

"Priossa, you will be my new lieutenant, make no mistakes however, or you too will depart this mortal coil. Find it, and find it soon. Time is of the essence - Curulan is no fool, and there are other spies about as well. We don't have much time before they realize.

GO! And go quickly!"

After making sure all the survivors were stable and able to walk, Joe carefully placed the bodies of the departed into the carraige. It wasn't a long walk back to Cartes, but it would be a solemn one. As he lead the way, his mind kept wandering back to the man who vanished. He hadn't found what he was looking for. Joe could tell it in his eyes. It wasn't dissapointment though, more, fear. Of someone to answer to? Joe slowed down to pace himself next to the lady Macht. "I hope you won't mind if I ask a few questions of you. You seem quite confident in yourself and I trust you know more that the others you journey with. The bandits were looking for something specific weren't they? Do you know if they found it, or what it might have been?" As he waited for a response, he prepared himself to communicate with James again, he hoped the wolf boy was ready for a task such as this.

The woman smiled. Milton noticed it, and discarded his pointless thoughts about it. Whatever those thoughts were, one of them was that he would watch this woman. They could all think he was keeping an eye on her for unneeded ‘safety’ precautions if they wanted.

Unasked to help, the healer watched Joe place the bodies. Time would pass very slowly until Milton was finished with this woman.

Peeking up to James Milton curled his lips slightly, yet emptily. He nearly envied the wolf’s ability to be alone while still with them.

:Lemac looked to Joe and there was a hint of a smile.:

"Master Joe, I fear that I don't know what they where after. They didn't want our money or to have there way with the women in the group. But by the way they acted they knew exactly what they where after but didn't know where to find it. They insisted that we had it, but they woundn't tell us what it was. I am sure that they didn't get it, other wise you wouldn't have stumbled upon them like you did."

:Lemac looked to the other and wondered when would be a good time to let them know exactly hwo she was. Now was not the time, but soon. Lemac looked to her wrist, knowing the power of the artifact that was hiddened as a rose tattoo about her wrist for the time. She wondered if that was what they where after. She said nothing about her thoughts and simpley followed the others back to Cartes.:

James yawned and continued watching from the tree. This was kind of boring, but he did say he'd help to Joe, so there's a fat chance he'd ditch anyone now.

Still, the thought did cross his mind.

Joe led them straight to the Temple District. Its tall spires caught in a permanent haze from the incense that is constantly burned. Joe was not interested in these great buildings, but on a small, humble building near the center of the district. He lead them through the circular roads until finally they came to the place. Wood and mortar with no real decorations or holy symbols of any kind, just a building, a door, and a knocker.

"Joe! What a surprise. Oh and my, you have quite a party with you." the old man who opened the door had bright eyes with a kind, if not weathered, look. "These people were ambushed on the road leading west out of the city," Joe said "Some were roughed up a bit, injured. A few, didn't make it." The old man's countenance fell as he followed Joe to the cart to reveal the casualties. "I'll see to their rights at once of course." "I believe some of the other travelers may be able to help you as well, some were traveling together and may know family to contact. Others may just need a place to rest until their wounds are mended and they can continue their journey." Joe replied.

"Thank you for allowing us this time." Joe said to lady Macht. "I hope the trail has not yet grown cold, but I have some ideas of where to look next. I have a few connections in the city that might have information that can help us. Perhaps this will also give us time to gather any supplies, or rest, we might need and any who care to continue this hunt can meet me at the Golden Griffon. I trust you know where that famous establishment is?"

:Lemac simply simled and bowed a bit to Joe. She looked about the area to gain her bearings.:

"So untill the morning at the Golden Griffon. Should you need me before then I can be found at the Red Garter Inn here in Cartes. It's about a block north of the Dancing Dryad."

:Lemac held her smile and looked to the others. When she felt that she was not being watched she sliped to the cart and took a small bag from a hidden pocket in the dress of the lady that died in her arms a while ago. As she walked towards the Red Garter she fumbled in the bag. She let out a quick sigh as she found that it's contents where still there. She sliped the ring she found about her finger and sliped the golden ball into a pocked hidden in a fold her of dress. The lady was a trused informant for the area and would need to soon be reaplced. But that was a matter for a different time. She would join the others in the tavern, a bit late but better to to drpo the guise then.:

Milton stayed back close to James as the others talked to the old man. As far as he was concerned things were done; they were safe. What else could this woman want?

He could have had his task done by now. It had been over a month since he was given it. Well back when he first learnt about the wolfboy’s differences. Time didn’t matter so long as things were done.

Unless they were done and time continued to lag backwards.

Out of money from wasting it on pleasures he had to do away with halfway threw Milton would follow James for a safe place to sleep for the night. Of course he’d suggest one where they could follow the woman and keep a ‘protective’ eye on her until she got to her inn.

James merely followed the others down the road like a loyal pet. He noticed Milton stayed with him and every now and then shot the healer a happy glance, but for the most part kept his vision forward.

The rag-tag bunch stopped in the temple district finally and James was curious where they had stopped at. He peeked around legs to see just what was going on and, satisfied with what he saw, turned about to look for a plant. There weren't any to be found. Instead, the wolf turned to Milton and nudged his leg gently to ask for food. Looking aside he noticed Lemac grab something from one of the bodies on the cart. It puzzled him a bit (he didn't understand the value of material items other than money and clothing) so he shrugged and looked back up toward's Milton's face.
