Enchant success rate?

Postby Cheshire » July 20th, 2006, 3:16 pm

(Tharris, Joe... i hope you boys read this)

My question is, would anyone want to help me perform this mini experiment?

Intro
They say the success rate is determined by wits... however i know a couple of people who firmly believe that mage skills also affect it.

Overview of the experiment
I want to get several characters of variying wits and mage skill, but probably most importnat, characters with empty guilds that they are willing to just add to mage. Also, you can't gain any more wits for the duration of the experiment.

First, UTUR and oiled weapons of the same exact stats will gathered and then sent to all the characters. Each character will ES the weapon and see how many enchants it took.

Characters that have avaliable guilds will then get mage guilds, and repeat the enchanting cycle and report the enchants used.

I was going to do this experiment with andywoo, it kind of faultered a bit though. when I have time, I'll do it I suppose.

my character has around 32 mage guilds and 475 wits I believe. I don't know though, I haven't logged in in weeks. to note though, on one occasion with this character, I got nearly as high a success rate on an item as woo did with a character with 800 wits and only 10ish mage guilds.

I've a rather good success rate...but I have 12 mage and around 600 wits.

So...*shrugs*

Not sure if that helps at all.

When we had full acces to the code, the chance to fail an enchant was:
failurerate=power/(power+wits)
or
succesrate=wits/(wits+power)
Where power is the usual P=3*Att+2*Def+Skill.

It's easy to help. Whenever you need to enchant an item from scratch, then give us basestats, your wits and how many enchants it took to fully enchant the item. If these equations still hold, then on average
Enchants=power*(wits+power)/wits.

I frankly do not believe the enchant scheme has changed. I've noticed nothing, and Fred doesn't have a habbit of fumbling with the machinery of the game. There always pop up rumors "what if it worked like.." and people blow the question out of proportion. Just because many people say "what if" doesn't mean they are right. It just makes the game a little bit more interesting because they feel they are exploring something new..

But, to be fair, we also need to collect your lvl in magery skills.
If you want to help:
When you fully enchant a weapon from scratch, then report the basestats, your wits, how many enchants it took, and your magery level.

Do you remember the file path and line on which the code was located? Sometimes i can still find specific lines of code when i use old versions as reference...
